Some sketches come to life in a sketchpad designed for that purpose, in the peace and quiet of a workshop or the designer’s home. Others on a large drafting table, taking shape with several hands participating at the same time. And others… perhaps, on simple scrap of paper, because ideas come out of the blue.
These blank figurines are the necessary starting point to express something real; a first glimpse of it. Tones, shapes, fabrics, movement, texture, details, progression… a range of possibilities that clearly show an identity.
Before the last Valmont Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, we had the privilege of getting an exclusive glimpse of the collections that would appear in the Fashion Shows, directly from their designers. Now, the Catalan illustrator, Joel Miñana, gives us another look; another way of understanding these collections. As complete as a photograph or perhaps even more so, the sketches give those looking at them the freedom to imagine the movements, details and parallel stories of what we saw in the 2019 Fashion Shows. His pad and his sketches take us right back in time to experience the 35 collections.
