Born in Lebanon and based in New York, Reem Acra is one of the most prominent bridal and gala designers in the world. She’s behind the looks of international celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Taylor Swift or Jennifer Lopez, and will be displaying 30 outfits from her spring 2019 bridal collection on Barcelona Bridal Night, held in the Maritime Museum’s Marqués de Comillas Hall on the night of 25 April.
Discovered by a fashion editor while studying at the American University of Beirut, Acra decided to dedicate herself to design and continued her education at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and later at the École Supérieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode (ESMOD) in Paris, France.
In 1997 she launched her Reem Acra New York brand, and in 2001 her ready to wear line. Since then, members of royalty, heads of state, and celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Beyoncé and Halle Berry have worn her designs on the red carpets of the Oscars, Grammy Awards, and Golden Globes, among other events. Her carefully crafted creations, featuring delicate lines and impeccable embroideries, are sold in the most exclusive stores in the world, such as Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue in the United States, and in more than 20 countries.
In addition to having received numerous awards as a designer and businesswoman, Acra was named the world’s 7th most influential Arabic Woman by Forbes magazine. She was awarded the Building Bridges Award, granted by the Bridges of Understanding Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to improve the relationship between the Middle East and the United Stations.
“I’m excited to show my 2019 Spring wedding collection at an event like the Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week and in a city like Barcelona, a place of beauty and culture like the women that embody my designs”, says Acra.
Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week thus continues its strategy of reinforcing its brands and contents at an international level, and of attracting creators, companies, and buyers from the world’s main bridal fashion markets. In this sense, as stated by Estermaria Laruccia, director of BBFW, “it is an honour for us to have the presence of a designer with the global reputation and prestige of Reem Acra. We are sure that her participation at BBFW will promote the international projection of the event as well as that of the entire sector”.
