Organised for the opening of the MET’s annual fashion show, it is one of the most important events in New York City, created to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
The theme this year?
‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’, where “camp” refers to the deliberate, conscious and sophisticated use of kitsch in art, clothing and attitude”. Everything as excessive, artificial and theatrical as you can imagine, while maintaining that aesthetic sensitivity that is a must in the fashion world.
The most eccentric looks? Katy Perry will surely be dressed as a chandelier (Moschino), Lupita Nyong’o with a rainbow sculpture dress (Versace), the disturbing Jared Leto with a replica of his head exhibited as a trophy (Gucci) and Billy Porter making his appearance as a winged, golden Egyptian pharaoh (The Blonds).
